Big Hitters Join Our C-Suite

In a bold move befitting our ambitious plans for growth—we don’t muck around—we’ve just announced significant senior appointments to our C-Suite.

Formerly Head of Institutional Sales at Citi, and Chief Operating Officer at Split, Chris Jewell has been promoted to the role of Chief Executive Officer.

“I’m really excited to take on this role and build on the unrivalled offering the founders and team have created at Split. We continue to work hand-in-hand with our clients to improve the experience for their customers, and eliminate costs driven by operational inefficiency,” said Chris.

Chris will be supported by new hire, Matthew Zaina—most recently at Goldman Sachs and Qantas Airways—as Split’s incoming Chief Operating Officer.

Split Co-founder Matt Cheers said the new hires ensured the company had a super experienced and well-connected team at the helm to drive sales and further highlight Split’s unique market position.

“We are delighted to see Chris move into the role of CEO, and welcome Matthew to the team,” said Matt.

“Chris has not only made a considerable contribution to Split Payments in his time as COO, but brings more than 15 years of investment banking experience to the business,” he added.

Together, these senior appointments bring vital corporate and financial markets chops to Split, and will complement our existing executive team extremely well, helping to facilitate the next phase of rapid growth for the company.

“We started Split Payments from our garage in Byron Bay in 2018 with a total commitment to improving customer experience. Our goal is to build the best technology to help people and businesses pay and receive money efficiently while providing a fantastic customer experience. Split’s current growth trajectory shows we’re achieving that,” says Matt.

Over the past six months, Split’s revenue has grown by some 275 per cent, and its team has more than doubled in size—now employing more than 50 staff at its Byron Bay headquarters and remotely across Australia.

There are plans to open a Sydney workspace in Q2 2021.

Specialising in real-time account-to-account payment solutions across all industries, and named AFR Most Innovative Technology Company for 2020, Split recently announced deals with TomraSuperhero and a2b Australia—home to brands including 13cabs, Cabcharge, EFT Solutions, and Mobile Technologies International.
